Here's what we've learned after designing hundreds of Portland gardens: The families who invest in their outdoor spaces use them more than any other part of their home.
Not the fancy kitchen. Not the media room. The garden.
Because a well-designed garden isn't decoration. It's where your family actually wants to spend time. Where memories happen. Where your teenagers willingly put down their phones. Where you host dinners that go late because no one wants to leave.
If you want to be using your new garden by summer 2026, we need to start the design process now.
And if you book before December 29th, you'll save 20% by locking in 2025 pricing.
What's Included in Your Design Package
Here’s a breakdown of a typical project, that require 70 hours of design work.
For the $8,750 design fee (when you lock in 2025 pricing), you receive comprehensive landscape design services:
Site Analysis + Design Prep
We perform a thorough site analysis: assessing solar exposure, water flow, slopes, existing vegetation, desired and undesired views, access, and circulation. We take measurements and produce basemap documentation of your property.
Conceptual Design
We generate conceptual design options for your whole property and create design documentation including sketches, vision boards, preliminary plant selections, and material selections. We meet with your family for one hour to share conceptual designs and gather feedback.
Design Development
We revise the design based on your input and generate landscape plans of the proposed design, visual plant list, and visual list of materials. We meet for one hour to review the design and receive your feedback to finalize it.
Design Documentation
We create a final design documentation reflecting all updates from our development meeting. This includes your planting plan, demolition plan, hardscape plan, and materials plan. We meet for one hour to review final design documentation and ensure you have everything you need.
Total: 70 hours of comprehensive design work
The result: A complete, buildable design for your property that solves drainage problems, creates functional outdoor rooms, supports local ecology, and reflects how your family actually wants to use the space.
THE TIMELINE MATTERS
To be using your garden by summer 2026:
Nov/Dec 2025: Lock in your rate with deposit
Jan/Feb 2026: Design phase begins
Mar/Apr/May 2026: Construction during optimal planting window
June/July 2026: You're hosting friends in your new space
If you wait until spring to start, construction pushes to late summer or fall—missing the entire 2026 season.
What Most Projects Actually Cost
Let's be transparent about total investment.
Design: $8,750 for a 70 hour design project (if you lock in 2025 pricing)
Construction: Most comprehensive landscape projects range from $100,000-$200,000 depending on scope.
A typical $150K construction project includes:
Custom hardscape: patio (600-1,000+ sq ft), pathways, fire feature
Outdoor kitchen or built-in grill station
Complete planting design with native and adapted plants
Mature trees for instant impact and shade
Irrigation system and landscape lighting
Grading and drainage solutions
Stormwater management (rain gardens, bioswales)
The result:
2,000-4,000+ square feet of transformed outdoor living space. Spaces that function like outdoor rooms. Gardens that support pollinators and birds. Increased home value (quality landscaping adds 15-20% to property value). A place your family actually wants to be.
Compare that to:
A $150K kitchen remodel you use for 30 minutes a day
A $30K family vacation that's over in two weeks
Your garden? You use it every day. For decades. And it gets better with time as plants mature.
This isn't an expense. It's an investment in how you want to live.

Most of our projects range between $50,000 and $200,000. However, we also take on projects outside this range, including larger installations with features like pools and pool houses, as well as smaller, more compact landscapes. Whatever your vision, we’re here to chat and ensure we’re a good fit for your needs and budget.
Before construction begins, we start with our master plan service, which typically costs between $6,000 and $10,000. This includes all the essential design documentation you’ll need. Investing in the master plan ensures that every detail is carefully considered, making the entire construction process smooth and seamless.
-
Absolutely! We offer flexible phasing options to fit your needs and budget. Our process begins with a detailed master plan design, which helps us outline the entire project and determine the most effective sequence for construction. We usually recommend breaking the project into phases of $15,000 or more to ensure meaningful progress and efficient management. This approach allows us to deliver visible results while accommodating your financial and scheduling preferences.

To kick off your project, simply send us a note at hello@be.land with some details about your vision. Our design team will reach out to schedule an initial phone call. We prioritize native plants because they perform better long-term in Portland's climate and support local ecology. But we design for your specific needs and aesthetic—it's not dogmatic.
